Org. Setting and Reporting

This internship is located in the Evaluation Team of the Policy, Evaluation and Training Division (DPET). The internship is UNPAID and full-time (five days per week for 35 hours), for a minimum duration of four (4) months and can be extended up to six (6) months. Interns will work under the supervision of a staff member within the Evaluation Team.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Evaluation Team, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties:

 

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. Examples of duties to be performed may include the following:

- Designing operational dashboards in Ms. Power BI;

- Analyzing IT statistics;

- Preparing operational and managerial reports;

- Reviewing and documenting internal operational processes to assist in optimization;

- Assisting on the development of workflows in Visio;

- Testing of new functionality in new systems;

- Preparing training materials, user requirements and specifications;

- Researching leading practices for service desk management;

- Assisting in other IT Functions as necessary;

- Attending and supporting the preparation of meetings, conferences, workshops and other events;

-Taking notes during meetings and drafting meeting minutes;

- Additional activities that may be required to ensure the success of the work team.

 

The intern will have an opportunity to gain practical knowledge and understanding in the project and resources planning, implementation, and operation of United Nations global information and communications technology.

-Client Orientation: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be "clients" and seeks to see things from clients' point of view; establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect; identifies clients' needs and matches them to appropriate solutions; monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients' environment to keep informed and anticipate problems; keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects; meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

Education

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first level university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. The following skills are required:

 

- Has demonstrated the intention to study further or work in a field relevant to the work of Information and Communications Technology, Information Management, Project Management, Business Management and Service Management;

- Strong knowledge of data management techniques, quantitative analysis and methods

- Strong knowledge of data visualizations tool (e.g. Microsoft SQL, Ms. Power BI);

- Be familiar with cutting-edge technology and tools and/or have experience with social networking and collaboration platforms.

Languages

English and French are working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is an advantage.
